How to Install Your New Wardrobe Safely
When doing any DIY work around the home and your family, the most important thing is that you and others around you are safe. When installing your new DIY wardrobe, there are several safety considerations to keep in mind.
Wear Protective Gear
Always wear appropriate protective equipment when installing your wardrobe, such as gloves, safety glasses, and safety boots, and keep your skin covered with long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. This will help protect you from cuts, scrapes and other minor injuries.
Don’t Work Alone
Due to the weight and size of wardrobes, they can be awkward to lift and move, so it’s always wise to have another person on hand to help.
Working with a buddy allows for easier lifting and gives extra stability and balance, and also gives you another set of hands to hold parts or fixings while they are being secured. Your partner can also provide another set of eyes to ensure that the wardrobe is being installed correctly.
Use the Right Tools
Use the appropriate tools for the job and make sure they are in good condition. Using the wrong tool (or a damaged tool) can cause accidents. Before starting the assembly or installation of any Stegbar products, refer to the ‘tools required’ section found in the Assembly & Installation guidelines.
Secure the Wardrobe to the Wall
It’s tempting to fill your wardrobe as soon as you’ve installed it, but before you put any clothes or other items into your wardrobe, make sure it's stable and secure. Your wardrobe should be properly anchored to the wall and all screws and bolts should be nice and tight
Keep the Work Area Tidy
Ensure that your work area is clean and free of clutter to avoid any trips or accidents. We also recommend that pets and children steer clear of the area while you’re working to ensure your whole family remains safe.
Use a Step Stool or Ladder
If you need to work above ground level, use a sturdy step stool or ladder. Whenever you are working on a ladder, take extra care and always ensure you have a second person with you to hold the ladder and pass tools and fittings to you as you need them.
Be Mindful of Electrical Outlets and Wiring
Be aware of the location of electrical outlets and wiring, especially if you need to drill holes or cut into walls. If in doubt, don’t risk it – contact an electrician to accurately pinpoint the location of any hidden wiring.
